An unrealistic seed can move a session away from the first familiar answer. Its purpose is temporary: expose consequences and variants, then remove the seed and select only what remains useful.
1. State the problem and choose a seed
Write the outcome, audience and main constraint. Reverse one constraint, remove a resource, change the customer or imagine an unusual rule.
2. Explore without evaluation
List what would change in behavior, sequence, ownership, cost, communication or failure. Do not argue with feasibility during this pass.
3. Restore constraints and choose one test
Return to the real budget, time, safety and technical limits. Select one fragment that can be prototyped or checked and record what would make you discard it.
Questions to consider
Does the bold seed need to be realistic?
No. It is a temporary lens, not a proposal. The final idea must still pass the real constraints after the seed is removed.
What if the group starts debating the seed?
Remind everyone that evaluation comes later. Write consequences and variants first, then return to feasibility in a separate pass.
Are all extreme prompts acceptable?
No. Avoid prompts that normalize harm, broken consent or unsafe shortcuts. Boldness does not remove boundaries.
